INTRODUCING: BILAL DRIDI

Can you briefly explain your background?

I am an experienced architectural engineer with over 15 years of expertise between project management, design, and BIM management. I am proud to hold a Global BIM Manager certification from the Ziggurat Institute of Technology, along with a master's degree in Global BIM Management from the University of Barcelona. Additionally, I have earned an MSC in Building Information Modeling and Project Collaboration from the University of Derby, where I am currently pursuing my Ph.D.

I am also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) accredited by PMI. And certified information manager ISO 19650 1,2 from BRE Academy UK, Autodesk Certified Professional.

Can you briefly explain your background?

In my capacity as the BIM and Digital Transformation Lead at Bureau Veritas Middle East, I am instrumental in driving innovative strategies in construction technology and digital transformation. This includes overseeing the seamless integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes throughout the project life cycle. I am also responsible for developing and implementing Bureau Veritas' Digital Plan of Work, as well as crafting digital transformation plans, templates, and protocols to guide our services along with the technology we have like (Drones, laser scanner) . My overarching goal is to expand digitalization in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry and Oil and Gas projects and with a keen eye on sustainability initiatives. By leveraging these frameworks, protocols, and Technologies , I aim to enhance our digital transformation services, ensuring excellence and efficiency across a broad spectrum of projects in the Middle East.

What’s your greatest professional achievement and your biggest challenge?

Since I’ve joined BV in April 2023 and in my first project, I achieved a significant milestone by completing the BIM and digital model of one of the government buildings in Abu Dhabi. This complex undertaking involved utilizing drone and laser scanning technology to capture intricate details, particularly in the challenging MEP network. The collaboration was advanced, utilizing BIM360 as a common data environment, resulting in the client's satisfaction with all model issues resolved.

For my second project, I led the fabrication of a digital replica for a refinery in Fujairah Port. This involved creating a detailed BIM model using Tekla Structure for structural components and Revit for MEP aspects. The cutting-edge Trimble X9, the latest Terrestrial Laser Scanner in the market, was employed to ensure precise laser scanning, contributing to the creation of an IFC model adhering to open BIM standards. This project showcased my proficiency in integrating advanced technologies for complex industrial structures.

In your daily work, how do you contribute to Shaping a World of Trust?

By serving as the BIM and Digital Transformation Lead, I actively promote transparency, collaboration, and innovation within the construction industry. The development and implementation of digital protocols, templates, and plans further contribute to establishing best practices and standards, fostering a trustworthy ecosystem for our clients and stakeholders. In essence, my work is dedicated to advancing technology, ensuring compliance, and instilling confidence in the outcomes of the projects we undertake, thereby shaping a world of trust through the lens of digital transformation.
