Bureau Veritas and Masdar Join Forces to Develop Regional Renewable and Green Energy Standards for the GCC

Jan. 15 2026

Bureau Veritas, a world leader in testing, inspection and certification services, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC), a global leader in renewable energy and sustainable development, to collaborate on developing a comprehensive framework for regionalizing renewable and green energy standards across the GCC region and beyond.

This strategic partnership aims to create clear, credible, and investment-grade regional standards that reflect the unique environmental, climatic, technical, and operational conditions of the GCC region. The collaboration will focus on adapting globally applicable Renewable Energy Engineering Standards (REES) to ensure they are fit-for-purpose across diverse operational contexts, including arid, arctic, and temperate regions.

The partnership will focus on developing a structured framework for regionalizing international renewable and green energy standards, with initial focus on the GCC while maintaining global applicability. This initiative aims to address existing gaps across all engineering disciplines in current standards, ensure unified interpretation globally, and ultimately de-risk investments by providing internationally recognized standards that support sound financial decision-making.

The collaboration directly supports the UAE's and broader GCC region's ambitious renewable energy and sustainability targets. By developing regionally adapted standards that maintain international credibility, the partnership will help attract investment, reduce project risks, and accelerate the deployment of renewable energy infrastructure across the region and beyond. The framework will also incorporate environmental sustainability considerations, including flooding, flora, and fauna impacts, as default requirements.
