Bureau Veritas congratulates Emirates SkyCargo on COVID-19 vaccines distribution

Feb. 24 2021

Bureau Veritas, world leader in testing, inspection and certification, has congratulated Emirates SkyCargo on the rollout of its COVID-19 vaccine distribution initiatives through the airline’s state of the art cargo hub in Dubai.

Since 2016, Bureau Veritas has been working with Emirates to conduct yearly audits of the airline’s infrastructure and operations at its hub in Dubai in accordance with the European Commission Guidelines on Good Distribution Practice of Pharmaceutical Products for Human Use (GDP). GDP describes the minimum standards that a transporter or distributor must meet to ensure that the quality and integrity of medicines is maintained throughout the supply chain. This is especially relevant to the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines because of their temperature-sensitive nature.

In December 2020, Emirates SkyCargo began the transportation of COVID-19 vaccines across its network through its hub in Dubai. By complying with GDP Guidelines, Emirates SkyCargo ensures control of the transportation process and consequently is able to maintain the quality and the integrity of COVID-19 vaccines during the air transportation process. The compliance with GDP also ensures that, medicines are stored in right conditions during the transportation process and that contamination of shipments is avoided.

Bureau Veritas has extensive experience auditing pharmaceutical suppliers worldwide. Bureau Veritas helps companies to promote social responsibility in every aspect of the supply chain and improve reputation by demonstrating commitment to responsible business practices. Bureau Veritas commends Emirates’ determination to maintaining the highest standards for the handling, storage and transportation of all pharmaceutical shipments and remains committed to working with Emirates SkyCargo by sharing best practices for EU GDP certification and audits.
