BUSINESS CONTINUITY

The international management system standard ISO 22301:2012 lays out the requirements for organizations to allocate responsibility and resources to understand the risks, plan, establish controls, and structure their operations in order to enhance resilience and recover more swiftly when failures do occur. In establishing an ISO 22301 compliant Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) the organization looks beyond itself, to consider its stakeholders and reach out into its value chain to improve the resilience of the whole business ecosystem and society within which it operates.

Like other management systems there are requirements to train staff to ensure competence, to check the functioning of the systems and procedures put in place periodically with internal audits and management reviews focused on continual improvement. ISO 22301 also follows the same High Level Structure (HLS) making it easier to integrate into existing ISO based management systems that the company may already have in place.
